HOW TO TURN YOUR TOUGHEST DAYS AROUND

Ever have one of those days when you wake up exhausted?

When you sort of have a sore throat/runny nose/icky stomach feeling and you know you could push it — but if you just rest, you’ll be fine tomorrow?

Rest. Just this once. Instead of pushing through — rest.

Give yourself a break.
Cancel your appointments with a smile and self love.
Choose a quiet activity to tackle instead of pushing through your body’s signals (again) .
Make tea, hug the people you adore, and get comfy on the couch.
Read a book.
Watch a movie.
Savor the simplicity of a lazy day.

It’s only by giving yourself permission to rest when you need it that you can do your most important work in the world.

You know, the work you were made to do.  The images you were meant to create, the words you were meant to pen.  The kids you were meant to love.  The paintings, the crafts, the programs, the products, the inspiration, the motivation you were put here to create — THAT work.

It doesn’t happen when you’re not at your best. It feels hard and distant, so there’s no use fighting your body’s signals.

Give up. Rest. And hit it harder tomorrow.

The next time that sort-of-sick/body-needs-a-break feeling surfaces, what are YOU doing to do? Tell me in the comments, I’d love for you to share your lazy-day secrets!

ThiS is currently my day. I was just thinking of getting off the couch and finally getting some work done. Then I read this and I think I’ll stay here with the kids instead.

Oh my gosh, this was exactly where I was yesterday. And for days I’ve been trying to push through, failing, then feeling bad about it. Which wasn’t relaxing at all. Today I’m swamped and trying to catch up, but hopefully yesterday’s total rest helped. Wish I’d seen this Friday!

This is exactly where I was yesterday, lol…which is why I wrote this from the couch and otherwise chilled. Tabitha’s Salon Takeover marathon? Yes, please!

Uggg, yes. That was my day yesterday. We have a huge move coming up on Saturday and are almost done packing. SO CLOSE. But it hit me hard yesterday. I was so exhausted the thought of packing one more box made me want to curl up and just cry. Instead, I sat with my daughter on the couch and snuggled and watched Aladdin.

You know what? My boxes will get packed. My clients will get taken care of. All will be just fine, it’ll get done and won’t be the end of the world if it doesn’t. But if I don’t stay sane? That would not be good.

Aladdin is an excellent choice — Robin Williams at his finest. Kudos to you for keeping your sanity, and good luck with the move!

Chicken soup! For the body and soul.

A good book with love story.

A feel good movie or a can’t-stop-crying movie.

Sleep in until I can’t sleep anymore.

    Snuggles with family in bed.

This was me last week, and I’m SOOOO glad I listened to my body and just RESTED. Though I admit… it was difficult to do. I felt so incredibly GUILTY… just lying there on the couch when I knew there were a million and one things that needed my attention. But soon enough I settled in with a new book and caught up on all my TiVo’d shows… dirty dishes be damned!

You’re so right. We do need to give ourselves permission to take it slowly. We can’t serve anyone well if we’re not in a good place ourselves.

I sort of feel like death warmed over these days (I am opening a new photo studio and doing the reno’s mostly by myself..) I am far behind in work & clients are starting to jump at my throat because I am giving them junk service.

I really wish I could take a day to refuel but I feel so guilty about it!
