I had a breakthrough call with one of my dominatrixees (or mentoring peeps, if you wanna get all technical about it) this week.
During the call, after much poking and prodding, she admitted that photography is her “B” project. Her “A+” project — the one she knows she wants to do more than anything but hadn’t yet had the courage to admit — is to be a contestant on Design Star.
So we talk about this.
We talk about what lights her up.
We talk about how tiles and backsplashes and interior designs make her insanely happy.
We talk about how getting photography clients seems hard, but getting design work seems easy.
And we agree that, given our remaining time together, we will do everything we can to get her A+ dream moved to the forefront of her life.
Her response? “I need to think on this more.”
And my response? “No, you f***ing don’t.”
See, she’s spent days, weeks, years thinking about her dream.
The last thing on earth that needs to happen is spending more time thinking, planning, pondering, or researching.
Now is the time to put the pedal to the metal and DO THE WORK.
Make the calls.
Talk to the friends of friends who can help with the project.
Tweak the portfolio.
Photograph past work.
Gather the testimonials.
Promote the plan.
Organize the event.
Hone in on the details.
Write the copy.
Create a team.
Close the sale. (Without shame.)
Do the work, do the work, do the work.
Give that A+ dream the A-plus status in your life it deserves and make it a priority. Schedule time to do the work and then…you know, do the work. I know you can.
What’s the next step you’re going to take in the A+ project you’re working on — instead of just thinking about it?
Let me know in the comments. As always, if you like what you’ve read, share this puppy on Facebook!

Yes! So much truth! Nothing will happen if you just think about it. I believe in this so much and am currently working on making my A+ dream of a promotional video a reality. I’m meeting with a videographer this week to go over the story board I’ve put together for my portrait business.
Loving it!
I’m rooting for you!
I am doing my happy-dance today because I just made one of my mini-goals a reality. I’d been working on putting together a look-book for my studio for over TWO YEARS now. Kept hesitating, and fixing, and fixing AGAIN because it wasn’t “PERFECT.” But I took a deep breath, put in the hard work, and then let it GO! This morning I posted it to my blog, and I’m getting fantastic feedback so far. *happy happy joy joy* Now to hit the BIG dream… making my photography a FULL-TIME gig!!! (Still working on that one…)
You’ll get there!
I set a launch deadline for my Tired Mom Web Videos – and family portrait resource site… 7.11 =) and I’m doing the work…right now. =)
AWESOME.
I want to finish making the foundation so that when I get clients for Sprinkle Me Pink I have beautiful product photos, quality dessert selections, professional contracts and fair prices ready for them. I’m have to be on hold right now with the legal stuff because WA state government is in the process of figuring it all out, but I want to be ready whenever they are!
